Call Me By Your Name: The TikTok Viral Trend Compilation and Explanation
Updated: Nov 23, 2021
Ok so if you've been on TikTok these last two weeks, there's no way you haven't seen the Lil Nas X' Call Me By Your Name trend on your For You Page! If you're not on TikTok, here is a quick explanation of what the trend is:
Lil Nas X released "Montero Call Me By Your Name" and the music video sparked conversation, controversy and generated a viral TikTok trend. The video includes an image of Lil Nas X sliding down a pole from Heaven. This image combined with the controversy that this music video sparked (see here for more details) led to the viral TikTok Trend "Lil Nas Dropping By." This trend involves the creator entering heaven (typically) and having conversations with historic, religious or mythological figures and being cut off by witnessing Lil Nas X descending down the pole from heaven.
Many creators have hopped on the trend and we've compiled some of the top videos below!

My friends and I sometimes use FMovies when we want to find something to watch together. It usually ends with us debating what to pick, laughing at the best scenes, and talking about it afterward.
This is a tidy explainer of how the Lil Nas X video turned one image, sliding down a pole from heaven, into the Lil Nas Dropping By format. Creators set a scene with historic or mythological figures, then get interrupted by that descent, and the compilation makes the joke land even if you missed the original wave. Trends move fast. A slower counterpoint I enjoy off-screen is tai chi walking.
