Today’s coffee chat is with Dupé Aleru (@dupealeru). Dupé Aleru is a powerhouse award-winning motivational speaker, life coach, digital influencer, and producer of the hit video series, Daily Dose with Dupé. She has been featured on shows such as CBS’ National Syndicated Talk Show, The Drew Barrymore Show, and Good Morning LaLa Land. Her career has spanned from being a red carpet and backstage host interviewing A-list celebrities, to launching Davi Creative LLC, a digital creative agency that creates, produces, and distributes digital content for speakers, influencers, and business professionals.

Throughout her sixteen years as a motivator, educator, and entrepreneur, Dupé has never lost her passion for helping people from all walks of life identify and realize their true dreams. It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you started from, if you can embrace your natural gifts and commit to your life purpose, you can create opportunity.

Dupé first began using TikTok in April 2020 during quarantine. What started out as a fun way to fill up her time indoors, turned into something bigger than what she could have imagined. Within a few months, she was invited by TikTok's Creator Development Team to be a TikTok Partner for its Creative Learning Fund Program. Within a year, her account has accrued over 2.4 million likes, 19 million views, and 150k followers. She has also been featured in Women of TikTok Book, 100 Challenge Cards from 100 Women of TikTok, TikTok Creator Portal, and TikTok Wellness Hub.

We asked Dupé to share some advice, tips and thoughts with us that could help creators with their TikTok journey!

What is your TikTok handle and did you have a strategy behind choosing your handle username?

My TikTok handle is @dupealeru, my first and last name. My strategy behind choosing my username is to brand my name, keeping it consistent across all social media platforms.

What was the process behind creating your first video on the platform? How did it feel?

My first video on TikTok was a funny skit. I didn’t have a process the first two weeks on the platform as I was still trying to figure out what TikTok was all about. After a few weeks, I realized the way to grow is to stick to a niche, preferably the thing that you’re great at, and for me, that was motivational content.

How did you decide what kind of content you wanted to post on your platform or what audience you wanted to reach?

The way I decided on what kind of content to post on my platform was to do what I do best, motivate, inspire, educate, and empower people to be the best that they can be in life and business.

What advice do you have for creators that are still trying to find their niche on TikTok?

The advice that I have for creators that are still trying to find their niche on TikTok is to do what you do best and that you can see yourself growing as a brand or business outside of the app.

What happens when one of your videos does not perform how you expected? Do you ever recreate or repost the video?

The funny thing about TikTok is that the videos that you sometimes expect to perform well, don’t; and the videos you don’t expect to perform well, do. Therefore, I have stopped having expectations on performance and focus on the creativity and value I’m providing my audience.

Are there any tricks/tips that you have used to boost your posts that you’d like to share with creators?

One of the best tricks or tips I can share with any creator wanting to boost your post is to go LIVE on TikTok every day while a video is trending. When you have a trending video, you can pick up massive views on that video and get a lot of new followers in the process.

How do you keep your community/followers engaged with you and your content on TikTok?

I keep my community engaged with me and my content by going LIVE twice a day. In the mornings, I host a morning motivation show to engage with my audience. Then in the evenings, I do a rapid fire Q&A to answer any questions that my community may have pertaining to a topic that we choose for the LIVE.

How do you handle the negative comments on the platform?

The way I handle the negative comments on the platform is: responding back in a positive manner hoping to bring joy and positivity to those that may be struggling internally, ignoring the comments, or blocking if necessary.

What is next for you on the platform, anything we should be on the lookout for?

My goal is to continue to grow my community, get verified, work with big brands, and produce new and relevant content on a consistent basis.
